WegE Lecture: "Teachers as Predictors of the Future" (Anne Bamford)

Veranstalter: KulturPLUS/WegE

Montag, 29.10.2018: 18:00 - 20:00 Uhr; U5/00.24

A child born today will not finish their formal education until around 2038. As teachers, we need to be predictors of the future, as learning does not only help children and young people to overcome the challenges of day to day life, it importantly prepares them to flourish in the future. What sort of qualities do teachers need for preparing this future? Arguably, rather than lead change in education, teachers have been accused of perpetuating an outdated model. The German Federal Government has introduced a quality campaign to try to improve the teachers of the future, but what are the characteristics of quality which should be being developed? Across many countries there is a shortage of teachers and as many teachers leaving the profession as staying. As the world of work has generally become more flexible and creative, teachers have faced greater restrictions and more inflexibility. How do teachers become leaders with a rapidly changing social and economic context?
