Inhalt:

In this course, we will discuss some of the most important theoretical and methodological foundations of the social sciences. We will discuss central terms like explanations, theories, models and understanding in the social sciences. We will also discuss different purposes of models, the status of rationality and Rational Choice Theory, as well as the question of what role values play in scientific inquiry. Beyond these fundamental questions, we will ask how these issues are relevant for politics, society and everyday life by means of examples. That is, we will not just talk about social science in abstract terms, but also look at how it is actually done.
