Einführung in die Bevölkerungswissenschaft -
- Dozent/in:
- Florian Schulz
- Angaben:
- Vorlesung, 2 SWS, Gaststudierendenverzeichnis
- Termine:
- Mo, 10:00 - 12:00, F21/02.55
- Inhalt:

Fortgeschrittene Themen Familie - Familiendemografie -
- Dozent/in:
- Henriette Engelhardt-Wölfler
- Angaben:
- Seminar, 2 SWS
- Termine:
- Mi, 10:00 - 12:00, FMA/01.20
- Inhalt:
- In this course new mathematical and statistical techniques that permit sophisticated analysis are refined and applied to questions of current concern in order to understand the forces that are driving the recent dramatic changes in family patterns. The areas examined include the impact of the evolving Second Demographic Transition, where complex patterns of gender dynamics and social change are re-orienting family life. New analyses of marriage, cohabitation, union dynamics, and union dissolution provide a fresh look at the changing family life cycle, emerging patterns of partner choice, and the impact of union dissolution on the life course. The demography of kinship is explored, and the importance of parity progression to the generation of the kinship web is highlighted. The methodology of population projections by family status is examined, and new results are presented that demonstrate how recognizing family status advances long term policy objectives, especially with regard to children and the elderly. This course applies up-to-date methods to examine the demography of the family, and will be of value to sociologists, demographers, and all those who are interested in the family.

Blockseminar
- Inhalt:
- In the past decades genetic research has made several groundbreaking discoveries. Furthermore, thanks to modern methods of analyses and new technologies, today genetic information is broadly available in a wide range of datasets. Based on this data, countless studies were conducted, indicating the ubiquity of genetic influence: Educational success, intelligence, delinquency or family-life, everything seems to be, at least in parts, influenced by genetics. What do these findings mean for the social sciences and how can these findings be integrated in social science research? Which topics in the social sciences need to take the findings of modern genetics into account and which issues can occur if these results are ignored by the social sciences? These and other questions are discussed during the seminar "Sociogenomics".

Blockseminar
- Inhalt:
English Version
Germany is characterized by one of the oldest populations in the world. The aging of the population will accelerate in the upcoming years, when the high-fertility cohorts of the 1950s and 1960s, the so-called Babyboomers, enter the retirement age. Against this background, Gerontology as the science of aging is becoming increasingly important not only in the academic environment but also for political decision-makers. The seminar will cover central concepts and theoretical approaches as well as empirical research fields of social gerontology. In addition to the life course perspective as a general framework, more specific approaches (disengagement-, activity and continuity thesis) as well as the current discourse on "productive aging" and healthy aging are discussed.
