For BA students, this course is part of the Ergänzungsmodul.
BA major English and American studies (75 ECTS): Choose the Ergänzungsmodul in one of the two fields in which you are doing the Aufbaumodule (i.e. Literature, Linguistics or Cultural Studies).
BA minor English and American studies (30 or 45 ECTS): Choose the Ergänzungsmodul in the same field in which you are doing the Aufbaumodul (i.e. Literature, Linguistics or Cultural Studies).
For MA students, the course is an integral part of their seminar in the Mastermodul English Linguistics.

A short note on the time slots above:
The course comprises three sessions that require attendance: 19.04. 08:00-10:00 (s.t.), 02.05. 08:00-10:00 (s.t.), 03.05. 08:00-12:00 (s.t.), with a little project work in between. Please contact the lecturers for special arrangements if you encounter timetabling issues. The sessions from 23.04. to 26.04. (via MS Teams) are consultation hours for supporting the project work; attendance is not obligatory or permanent.

Inhalt:

Description:
The Übung "Methods and Theories in Linguistics" accompanies a linguistic seminar (for BA: Ergänzungsmodul Sprachwissenschaft; for LA Gym: Vertiefungsmodul Englische Sprachwissenschaft; for MA: Mastermodule English Linguistics). It complements the theoretical and methodological insights and skills in this area. The Übung will introduce and put to work techniques and approaches characteristic of English Linguistics and thereby help students to acquire competence in using specific sources of information and technologies as well as in collecting, analysing and visualizing their own empirical data. The topics treated will include aspects of academic writing (handling secondary literature, referencing, structuring a termpaper), the analysis of linguistic corpora and other databases, the use of online dictionaries, the construction of questionnaires, the analysis of audio-recorded data, the interpretation of experiments, etc.

Es wird dringend empfohlen, mit der Vorbereitung auf die Klausur in englischer Sprachwissenschaft mindestens 1 Jahr vor Prüfungstermin zu beginnen.

Inhalt:

Die Lehrveranstaltung soll gezielt auf die Klausur in englischer Sprachwissenschaft (Unterrichtsfach) vorbereiten. Zielgruppe sind Studierende des Lehramts an Grund- und Mittelschulen, Realschulen und beruflichen Schulen - vgl. hierzu alte LPO (2002): LPO I, §48 (4) 1.c) und neue LPO (2008): LPO I, §44 (3) 1.a). Auf der Basis des verbindlich festgelegten und für ganz Bayern einheitlichen Lektürekanons sollen die im Laufe des Studiums erworbenen sprachwissenschaftlichen Kenntnisse wiederholt und speziell auf die Anforderungen der Prüfung hin vertieft und systematisiert werden. Besprochen werden weiterhin die Modalität der Fragestellungen bei dieser Prüfung und die zu früheren Terminen gestellten Aufgaben. Gegen Ende des Semesters werden Übungsklausuren zur Überprüfung des erreichten Kenntnisstands durchgeführt.

Kenntnis der in der Orientierungshilfe für StaatsexamenskandidatInnen (Englische Sprachwissenschaft) aufgeführten Literaturliste. Diese ist im Sekretariat des Lehrstuhls für Englische Sprachwissenschaft (U9/01.02) zu erhalten.
