"Towards a New Paradigm of Girlhood: Louisa M. Alcott's |Little Women|" - Gastvortrag von Prof. Dr. Elizabeth Thiel (University of Roehampton, UK)Veranstalter: Lehrstuhl für Englische Literaturwissenschaft Mittwoch, 26.11.2008: 10:30 - 12:00 Uhr; U9/111This lecture will focus on the tension between the nineteenth-century feminine ideal and the emergence of a new paradigm of girlhood, a phenomenon evidenced in Louisa M Alcott's Little Women. It will consider the development of gendered fiction for young readers, with brief reference to canonical texts for boys, before moving on to discuss Alcott's text, with particular emphasis on the notion of 'The Angel in the House' in relation to Coventry Patmore's 1854 poem, critic Lissa Paul's interpretation of the term and Alcott's characterisation of Beth March.
