Students studying the “old” Lehramt (Unterrichtsfach) must have completed their Grundkurse and have passed both the E-D Übersetzung I and Phonetics and Phonology courses.

European Joint Master’s Degree English and American Studies, Compulsory Subjects: Mastermodul Language Proficiency, 6 ECTS
If the course is too full, preference will be given to students in higher semesters (6th semester and higher) and to those who have been abroad. Students will also be distributed between the two classes to ensure that there are similar class sizes!

- For students of the "old" Lehramt, as preparation for the demands of the LPO I, the Oberkurs is presently offered as a four-hour course which, along with the course Englisch-Deutsch Übersetzung/Sprachmittlung II, deals with the main language elements of the final exam (for Lehramt).
We strongly advise students from the "new" (modulised) Lehramt to wait until the summer term of 2011 to take this course as there will be new 2-hour courses that reflect the content of your exam (which is shorter). The credits will also be reduced to 3 ECTS.
Joint Degree and Masters students do not take the same final examinations as Lehramt students do, of course, but the content and the demands of this course of studies are similar. Slight changes will be made in the written exams in the course to reflect the international backgrounds of the participants.
There will be three exams written outside of class that are based on tasks/skills required by the Textproduktion examination for Lehramt. Students will also be required to write comprehension/vocabulary quizzes in class. "Old" Lehramt students’ grades from this course will go on record and, after successful completion of the Hauptstudium translation course, students presently still studying in the “old” Lehramt programme will be awarded the written sprachpraktischer-landeskundlicher Oberkursschein.
The course will require students to demonstrate considerable linguistic complexity on all levels and have a high degree of competence in Landeskunde. It is therefore indispensable that students have already taken classes in GB and US Landeskunde and are aware that this course is primarily intended as realistic preparation for Lehramt students for the Textproduktion paper in their final exams. It is thus advisable to take this course after a longer period spent abroad.
For organisational reasons, Lehramt and Master students are allowed to take this course either before or after taking the translation course Englisch-Deutsch Übersetzung/Sprachmittlung II! These two courses cannot be taken in the same semester!
The content and goals of both Oberkurs (Unterrichtsfach) courses are identical.
