- Inhalt
- Basic issues in metaphysics will be discussed from the point of view of contemporary debates in analytical philosophy, but with an eye to their historical origins. Topics will include: the problem of universals, nominalism, theories of substances and related discussions, debates about the nature of propositions, conceptions of necessity and possibility, the nature of time, the nature of causation, debates about realism. The course intends to highlight the positive contributions that analytical philosophy can offer to long-standing philosophical debates. No prior acquaintance with analytical philosophy is required, and the course can also be an introduction to analytical philosophy for students with other philosophical backgrounds.
