Migrant Biographies The Changing Faces of Migration from Iran to the Ottoman Empire and TurkeyVeranstalter: Elite-MA Kulturwissenschaften des Vorderen Orients Samstag, 17.7.2021: 9:00 - 13:00 Uhr; SP17/00.13The Ottoman Empire and its major successor
state Turkey, located at the crossroads of Europe
and Asia, has been the destination and transfer
point for many migrant surges in the past few
centuries. The geographical aspect encouraged
migrants from various backgrounds and circumstances
to make Turkey the focus of their journey.
There has been a surge in academic interest
in both “migration” and “biography studies”.
The two fields of study compliment each
other. Individuals transformed their memories
into text and inspired others with their migration
journey, illuminating the massive flow
of migration. The biographical insights bear
witness to the various waves, increasing in
times of political unrest in neighbouring Iran.
The event is hosted by the Elite Master’s Programme
Cultural Studies of the Middle East /
Elite- Masterstudiengang Kulturwissenschaften
des Vorderen Orients, under the supervision
of the Visiting Prof. Dr. Abdulhamit Kırmızı.
