Bayerisches Orient-Kolloqium: Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Ali Ansari (University of St. Andrews): "Iranian nationalists and narratives of the Enlightenment"

This paper will look at the means and ways in which narratives of the enlightenment shaped the ideas of early Iranian nationalists toward the state, and the role of the citizen within the modern state. It will argue that far from drawing purely from the ideas of the French Revolution, Iranian nationalists were far more indebted to radical Whig ideas of progress and national cosmopolitanism.
