Workshop: New Symbolic Modes in Contemporary Russian Cinema (Prof. Dr. Beata Waligórska-Olejniczak)

During the workshop we will study recent tendencies in contemporary Russian cinema on the basis of the selection of the films, which can be considered artistically daring. They will include, among others, the productions of Aleksei Balabanov, Renata Litvinova, Andrei Zvyagintsev, Vera Storozheva, Ivan Vyrypaev. The objective of the meeting is to capture the emergence of a new cinematic sensibility, to propose a relevant interpretative framework and to emphasize the aesthetic dimensions of the films.

Prof. Dr. Beata Waligorska-Olejniczak is the Head of Department of Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies, Institute of Russian and Ukrainian Philology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland.

Professor Waligorska-Olejniczak is the author of several works on Russian film published in Polish and Russian, for instance the book “New Russian Cinema in View of Literary and Film Tradition”, as well as the articles “On the Experience of Old Age in the Context of Contemporary Existential Dilemmas: The Film Elena by Andrei Zvyagintsev” and “The Myth of Leviathan in the Work of Andrei Zvyagintsev”.
