- Inhalt
- Up to the mid-1980s immigration was one of the least politicized issues on the political
agenda of European countries. Since then, however, it has become one of the most important
topics on the political agenda. Mass immigration has resulted in widespread xenophobia and
fierce debates on the difficulties of integrating new arrivals. Muslim migration in particular
seems to pose a special challenge to Western Europe, leading to widespread Islamophobia
throughout the region. In this course we will consider reactions to Muslim immigration in
Western Europe at various levels. What kind of policies do the European states implement in
order to regulate mass immigration and integration? How do nationals react to this and how
can we explain Islamophobia?
