- Das Seminar wird für den Bachelorstudiengang Psychologie Pflichtmodul Persönlichkeitspsychologie angeboten.
Students are asked to actively participate in discussing the topics covered in this seminar as well as preparing parts of one session in more detail. This course will also require to implement different learning methods and didactics.
Language of instruction is optional either English or German, however, language will be decided in the first session of the seminar.
- Inhalt
- In this seminar we concentrate on questions with respect to the emergence of gender differences and effects of gender stereotypes, especially in educational contexts. Particular focus will be lying on the description and explanation of gender differences, on the (implicit and explicit) measurement of gender stereotypes as well as on theoretical background and empirical findings of gender development. Moreover, outcomes of gender stereotypes with respect to individual's personality and competence development across the lifespan will be covered in more detail throughout the term. Overall, we will discuss this topics also against the background of an intersectionality perspective.
In detail, we will define and theoretically frame various constructs, such as gender stereotypes, gender identity, and gender role self-concepts. Furthermore, we will cover established theories about gender development. Subsequently, we will cover topics of outcomes of gender stereotypes – especially in educational contexts; for example, stereotype threat, self-fulfilling prophecy, and cognitive schemata.
