- Inhalt
- This course will introduce students to the works of Samuel Beckett. We shall look at the Irish writer with respect to the Theatre of the Absurd and to the positioning of Beckett writings in relation to Modernism and Postmodernism.
The first part of the course will be dedicated to Beckett's major plays Waiting for Godot, Endgame, Happy Days and Krapp's Last Tape. We then move on to some of the more experimental plays, and will conclude with a look at Beckett's narrative writings (the short story "Dante and the Lobster", as well as glimpses of his novels Watt and Molloy).
Students are expected to have read at least Waiting for Godot and Endgame by the beginning of the term.
A hint for those looking for books by and about Beckett in our library: Since Beckett initially wrote many of his works in French, he is shelved under "Romanistik" in some libraries (including Bamberg)!
In order to obtain a "Schein", students will also have to participate in a row of sessons of the tutorial "Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten"
