- Inhalt
- This seminar explores one of the most popular genres of British TV, the
political drama. From the list below we will choose a variety of
thrillers both full of conspiracy and threatening developments and those
where no blood is spilled, but rather some light shed on the
machinations of politics. A few even tell the careers of well-known
politicians in biopics.
A political thriller is usually set against the backdrop of a political
power struggle and involves conspiracies to replace someone in power. We
will mainly focus on British political affairs involving
corruption, terrorism, and warfare. Reviewing the film The Interpreter,
Erik Lundegaard defined thrillers: “The basic plot is an ordinary man
pulling an innocent thread which leads to a mess of corruption. The
corruption should be political or governmental in nature.” (2006)
