Scheinanforderungen:
2 ECTS: regular active participation in class + oral presentation
4 ECTS: regular active participation in class + oral presentation + short assignment
6 ECTS: regular active participation in class + oral presentation + written paper

8 ECTS sind nur für BA-Studierende nach Absprache mit dem Dozenten vor Semesterbeginn möglich.

Diese Lehrveranstaltung ist für alle Studiengänge der englischen Sprachwissenschaft (Lehramt, BA, MA usw.) geeignet, in denen 2, 4 oder 6 ECTS erforderlich sind.

Inhalt:

Language change -- often in the form of perceived declining standards -- is a topic almost everyone talks about. But very often questions like "What preposition is used in conjunction with 'different'? Different from, than or to?", "Why are some neologisms like 'to google' successful and others like 'infobahn' are not?" or "Is it just a feeling or is the "going to"-future really employed more often recently?" are answered only based on one speaker's intuition or anecdotal evidence. In this course we will deal with questions like these and explore a methodological toolkit that will enable you to base your answers on real-world language data as opposed to pure intuition or made-up examples. Reading material will be made available in the Virtual Campus during the course.
