- Inhalt
- This course is divided into two parts. The first part will be conducted in a traditional class format for the first three weeks; it focuses on
- a basic introduction to acoustics
- an introduction to linguistically relevant acoustic parameters (pitch, intensity, spectral properties, duration)
- the computer program Praat and its basic functionality
The second part of the course, running for another three weeks but possibly extended beyond the six week period, will be conducted in small groups, or as sittings with individual participants. In this part we will have time to
- analyse recordings made (or downloaded) by the participants,
- focus on specific issues (e.g. the acoustic analysis of vowel, stress patters, intonation)
- the Praat scripting language for automatic analysis
The class assumes an interest in but no prior knowledge of acoustics or acoustic analysis.
