Für dieses Seminar ist eine Anmeldung erforderlich.
- Inhalt:
- “So, what do you teach?” “English.” “And you?” “People.”
This seminar will concentrate on the learner rather than the subject being taught. What makes our learners “tick”? What variables do they bring to the classroom which influence their success? Why are some pupils “better at languages” than others – or is this merely a misconception in the first place? We will also take a critical look at some of the recent views on learning styles and strategies. Finally, we will examine what consequences this might have for our teaching.
Regular and active participation is expected from all participants, and grades/credits will be given via several graded pieces of work throughout the semester (e.g. short class talk, class tests, reading tasks, short written papers, etc.)

Für dieses Seminar ist eine Anmeldung erforderlich.
- Inhalt:
- “Landeskunde” has been regarded as an integral part of foreign language teaching for a long time now, but very often it has been demoted to a mere unquestioned collection of “facts” about the country.
In this seminar we will take a brief historical look at the subject of “Landeskunde”, its various teaching models, the role of stereotypes, and what (if anything) distinguishes it from “cultural studies” and/or “intercultural competence”. We will then go on to take a look at what relevance this has for the textbooks and resources we use and the materials that we develop for teaching.
Regular and active participation is expected from all participants, and grades/credits will be given for a class presentation (Referat) plus term paper (Hausarbeit).
