Portfolio
The portfolio comprises a number of different tasks which include developing a research-based activity (to be presented in the seminar), carrying out the activity in an actual English lesson at a secondary school, and reflecting upon it in a follow-up task.
5. Please note:
For all TEFL courses, our team considers three elements as vital:
1) Enrolment: If you sign up for a course, please make sure you attend the first session. If you cannot attend or you need to deregister from the seminar for whatever reason, please inform your lecturer.
2) Regular attendance: If you cannot attend a session, please inform your lecturer via email.
3) Active participation: Please attend regularly, so that you can actively participate in our seminars, engage in fruitful discussions, take part in interactive tasks, and successfully complete your exam/paper.

- Inhalt
- Taking the CEFR as a starting point, this seminar will focus on the skills and demands of communication in the EFL classroom. Focusing on secondary and vocational school teaching, we will discuss modern methods to enhance students speaking skills including cooperative learning, scaffoldings, and the use of digital media (e.g. TED talks, video chats, podcasts, memes) and virtual reality apps (in cooperation with Michelle Zirkel). In this seminar, we will put theory into practice by cooperating with English classes at the Franz-Ludwig-Gymnasium in Bamberg (especially with my own class: grade 9). Therefore, two seminar sessions will be replaced by practical workshops at the FLG (exact dates will be given as soon as possible). Students will be required to attend regularly in order to learn how to structure, deliver and reflect on the lessons.
Course objectives:
- broaden participants knowledge on TEFL theory that needs to be taken into consideration when fostering the students speaking skills
- critically reflect on different methods and approaches that aim to foster communicative competence
- use correct classroom phrases as well as adapt teacher talk to the students levels
- develop and carry out lesson plans focusing on speaking skills (tandem teaching)
