Inhalt:

This course is concerned with central aspects of phonetics and basic phonological concepts. It will provide a description and classification of speech sounds together with a discussion of all English vowels, semi-vowels and consonants. Particular attention will be paid to the problems German learners have with English pronunciation. Students will learn to use the IPA system to transcribe English texts, including the use of strong and weak forms, lexical and syntactic stress.

Modulanbindungen
Diese Lehrveranstaltung ist für alle Studiengänge der englischen Sprachwissenschaft (Lehramt, BA, MA usw.) geeignet, in denen 2, 4 oder 6 ECTS erforderlich sind.

Inhalt:

The seminar will introduce students to the study of the English lexicon. After the discussion of a few basic terms such as linguistic sign, morpheme, lexeme we will first be concerned with word-formation (the patterns used to form lexemes in English) and semantic structures within the lexicon (e.g. synonymy, polysemy, lexical fields etc.). In the second half of the term we will deal with the applied branch of lexicology, i.e. lexicography. We will analyse different types of dictionaries and discuss their individual advantages and drawbacks. Finally, it is intended to examine the functions of dictionaries in foreign language learning. Participants in the seminar will be asked to prepare individual topics and present them in class. At the end of term, there will be a written exam on lexicological aspects of English.

Aktive Mitarbeit sowie Vorbereitung und Präsentation einer Klausur.
Es wird dringend empfohlen, mit der Vorbereitung auf die Klausur in englischer Sprachwissenschaft mindestens 1 Jahr vor Prüfungstermin zu beginnen.

Inhalt:

Die Lehrveranstaltung dient der Vorbereitung auf die wissenschaftliche Klausur nach LPO I §64 (3) 1b "Aufgabe aus der Sprachwissenschaft - Linguistik synchron" für das Lehramt an Gymnasien. Auf der Basis des vorgegebenen und für ganz Bayern einheitlichen Lektürekanons sollen die sprachwissenschaftlichen Kenntnisse der Studierenden in Hinblick auf die Anforderungen der Klausur erweitert und systematisiert werden. Der Schwerpunkt der Übung wird darin bestehen, zu früheren Terminen gestellte Aufgaben eingehend zu besprechen. Von den SeminarteilnehmerInnen wird erwartet, daß sie bereit sind, einzelne Klausuren detailliert vorzubereiten.

Kenntnis der in der Orientierungshilfe für StaatsexamenskandidatInnen (Englische Sprachwissenschaft) aufgeführten Literaturliste. Diese ist im Sekretariat des Lehrstuhls für Englische Sprachwissenschaft und Mediävistik (U9/01.02) zu erhalten.

Auf der Basis des verbindlich festgelegten und für ganz Bayern einheitlichen Lektürekanons sollen die im Laufe des Studiums erworbenen sprachwissenschaftlichen Kenntnisse wiederholt und speziell auf die Anforderungen der Prüfung hin vertieft und systematisiert werden. Besprochen werden weiterhin die Modalität der Fragestellungen bei dieser Prüfung und die zu früheren Terminen gestellten Aufgaben. Von den SeminarteilnehmerInnen wird erwartet, daß sie bereit sind, einzelne Klausuren detailliert vorzubereiten.
