Inhalt:

This seminar will take a look at interaction both inside and outside the language classroom. Oral skills are central to language teaching, and therefore psycholinguistic background, communicative competence and methods to achieve this will be examined carefully.

4. Leistungsnachweise:
For credit points to the course / "Leistungsnachweis" and successful completion of the course, students will put together a portfolio of work throughout the semester (continuous assessment), such as short class talks, homework exercises, worksheets, class tests, etc. Regular attendance and participation is also a prerequisite.
Students must also take part in the tutorial group allocated to the course ( = Übung A) regular attendance and active participation is expected here as well to receive full credit.

Inhalt:

The aim of this course is to introduce basic concepts and principles of English language teaching and to discuss them in the light of practical application and classroom procedure. The course includes a discussion of the following: theories of language learning and acquisition, approaches and methods in ELT, teaching vocabulary / grammar / the skills / literature, the principles of lesson planning, error analysis, and assessment procedures in the classroom.

Inhalt:

This is an approach in foreign language teaching that seeks to engage learners in interactionally authentic language use by having them perform a series of tasks and aims to enable learners both (1) to acquire new linguistic knowledge and (2) to proceduralize their existing knowledge. Typical characteristics are natural or naturalistic language use, learner-centred content and focus on form. Nevertheless, this is not without its critics. This seminar will therefore take a critical look at the theoretical backgrounds and resulting classroom consequences.
