Inhalt:

Das Museum Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg besitzt neben Berlin eine der größten Sammlungen Islamischer Kunst in Deutschland. Wir werden unser Augenmerk bei dieser zwei-tägigen Exkursion auf die zeitgenössischen Objekte richten und uns direkt bei den Kuratoren über die Museumspraktiken informieren. Am Samstag stehen Museumsgeschichte und Sammlungsaufbau im Zentrum des Besuchs des Museums am Rothenbaum - Kulturen und Künste der Welt (Ausstellung: Erste Dinge)

Die Teilnehmerzahl ist auf 8 Personen begrenzt. Die Lehrveranstaltung kann in folgenden Bereichen belegt werden:

Inhalt:

The background to this exercise is the ongoing and planned renovation and redesign of the Museum of Islamic Art in the Pergamon Museum of the Berlin State Museums, which should be completed by 2025. In a practical context and in direct cooperation with museologists of the Berlin Museum of Islamic Art, the exercise will provide an overview of selected groups of objects of art and material culture of the Near East and their mediation and interpretation in a museum context. In addition to important terminologies, fundamental knowledge of functions, production techniques, and formal developments of the objects will be acquired. Students will also be enabled to recognise cross-references between groups of materials as well as historical contexts. An important focus is on current scholarly debates and developments in the theory and practice of museology, especially in view to the Berlin Museum as well as other museums of Islamic art worldwide that have recently been renovated or newly established. How can art and cultural-historical relationships between objects be made traceable in the exhibition? What can the "interpretation" of certain exhibits look like? Which "narratives" are presented to the public in what form? These and further questions will finally be worked out and discussed on site in a two-day workshop using the example of the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin.
