- In recent years, there has been a noticeable surge in global social inequality, diverging from the more equitable patterns seen in the post-war era. While structural shifts like globalization and technological advancements have traditionally been cited as driving forces behind this trend, increasing attention is now being directed towards the role of political choices, or the absence thereof. Governments wield significant influence over the distribution of wealth, income, and opportunities not only through traditional means such as taxation and welfare policies but also through market regulation or deregulation. This seminar aims to equip students with an understanding of the nature of social inequality, methods for its measurement, the political determinants contributing to its escalation, and potential strategies for reversing this concerning trajectory.
