- Inhalt
- The seminar will introduce students to a comparative perspective on media systems. We will first discuss why it still makes sense to compare media systems cross-nationally in the age of transnational digital platforms. In the second part of the seminar, we will get familiar with a theoretical framework for comparing media systems (Hallin and Mancini) that guides much conceptual and empirical work in the field. In the third part, students will look at key dimensions of comparison. They will learn and discuss how media markets, the extent of journalistic professionalization, the influence of politics and the role of the state vary between countries. International students in particular will be invited to share their views on the media system(s) they know.
