- Inhalt
- This course will cover a wide set of topics that focus on social and economic aspects of the lives of immigrants and their descendants. The whole cycle of migration will be looked at: beginning with determinants of migration, followed by the labour market experiences of immigrants, continuing onto various aspects of the lives of the second generation. A special focus will also be placed on transnationalism, which recognises that (at least some) migrants retain strong links to their countries of origin either through their own activities or by having a part of their family remain in the origin country. The course will focus on Western countries, with readings covering mainly Germany, other European countries and the United States. The course is taught and assessed in English.
