Inhalt
This course is designed to familiarize students with Variation in Global Englishes as a field of study. We will pay attention to the theoretical stakes as well as practical challenges of this work and become acquainted with key writings in this area of English linguistics. The topic of the course invites both empirical analyses as well as theoretical discussion, so that students will be encouraged to choose which type of project they would like to pursue.

Students interested in taking this course should please contact the instructor as soon as possible at lh@utexas.edu (deadline: November 12th). Keeping in mind that planning is subject to the number of students who enroll and no guarantees can be given, please do indicate in your e-mail whether you have a preference for a certain date or topic. In addition, please indicate your program of study and how far advanced you are in it. While the class is designed as a Hauptseminar, accommodations can be made for interested BA students.

Students will be required to attend the sessions listed below. All students who are signed up will be assigned a topic on which they will be asked to prepare an oral presentation of ca. 20-30 minutes. In addition, you will be asked to write up your papers (15-20 pp., double line-spacing)... or take a 90-minute final exam? In mid-November I will e-mail all enrolled students an article in pdf format, which I will ask you to read in preparation. You will also receive a complete introductory bibliography at that time.
