- Inhalt
- During the last semester (WiSe 23/24), we studied different aspects of the application of Islamic Law during the early modern period. This semester, we will deal with the role of Islamic Law in modern legal systems (20th and 21st centuries) focusing on the different ways and solutions employed in modern states. Some countries in the Islamic World almost totally ignore their legal heritage and opt for a secular system inspired often by European models, others – like Saudi-Arabia – follow an inherited legal system and adapt it to the contemporary world. We will study some examples (Egypt, Saudi-Arabia, Indonesia and others) and follow as well the discourse about the legitimacy of the respective legal systems.
