Introduction to Human Cognition -

- Inhalt:
- An introductory course on human cognition with a particular emphasis on neural underpinnings of discussed processes. Topics include attention (types of attention, limited capacity, neural correlates), eye movements, language, decision making (perceptual decision making, game theory, somatic marker vs. formal logic), memory, limits of cognition (Miller’s magic number 7), development of cognition, animal cognition, etc… The course is taught in English, providing an excellent opportunity for you to build vocabulary on the topic.

Introduction to Neuroscience of Consciousness -

- Inhalt:
- An introductory course on consciousness covering broad range of topics but with a particular emphasis on neural correlates. Topics include philosophical theories about consciousness, blidnsight (a guessing rather seeing vision without the primary visual cortex), conscious vs. unconscious processing in visual system (your brain has more information than you know), relationship between attention and consciousness (can you have one without another?), free will (and whether we have it), limits of conscious access to long-term memory (and how do you know your memory is real), loss of consciousness (sleep, coma), consciousness in animals. The course is taught in English, which will allow you build vocabulary on the topic.

Introduction to statistical analysis using free software (iPython, R) -

- Inhalt:
- A practical course on basic data analysis using free software R. The course covers the entire analysis pipeline: importing data from various data formats (excel, CSV, SPSS), data reformatting, grouping, summary statistics, statistical analysis (including parametric, non-parametric, and permutation tests), figure plotting, and data export. The course is taught in English, however, the reading material is also available in German.
