Content: The seminar deals with the transition from education to the labour market. We will thoroughly read and discuss the main theoretical approaches that connect education to labour market placement and outcomes. In addition, we will consider theoretical conceptions and empirical studies that refer to differences in the country settings of educational systems and labour market structures. We will discuss how these settings influence the transition from school to work.

Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches:

Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende ab dem 3. Semester. Für eine erfolgreiche Teilnahme sind grundlegende Kenntnisse in statistischen Auswertungsverfahren und in der Sozialstrukturanalyse von Vorteil. Zum Erwerb eines Leistungsnachweises müssen ein Referat übernommen und gelegentliche Aufgaben bearbeitet werden. Als Prüfungsform wird eine Hausarbeit angeboten. Eine Anmeldung über FlexNow ist erforderlich. Anmeldung bis 06.10.2014

Inhalt:

Das Seminar beschäftigt sich mit empirischen Befunden und theoretischen Erklärungsansätzen zu sozial ungleichen Bildungschancen. Es bietet den TeilnehmerInnen die Gelegenheit, sich mit den sozialen Mechanismen, die den Bildungsungleichheiten zugrunde liegen, fundiert auseinanderzusetzen. In den einzelnen Seminarsitzungen werden unterschiedliche theoretische Perspektiven zur Erklärung sozialer Ungleichheiten in verschiedenen Etappen des Bildungsverlaufs erarbeitet und empirische Studien diskutiert.
