Inhalt
Studying the transformations of the so-called early modern period (we will deal with the 17th to 19th centuries) is important to understand our contemporary world. These transformations include the rise of new social groups to the detriment of others, redistribution of wealth and a rebalance of political power and address the spheres of (re-)building the cities, culture, education up to leisure activities. The mechanisms and the agencies behind these developments shall be in the focus of our seminar. We will introduce the theoretical framework, the useful methods and the available sources suitable for this topic. Within this semester, each student will be able to develop an individual research-approach that may lead to a paper presented in a workshop in the next summer term.
