- Offered in collaboration with the Scottish Centre for Conservation Studies, the second annual Summer School will partner students of heritage conservation at Bamberg University with colleagues from the University of Edinburgh. Together they will undertake a critical examination of the concept of "World Heritage" that binds the two cities: its definition and criteria, its inherent tensions and contradictions, and its influence in shaping the environments it describes. The framework for these considerations will be the Old Town of Bamberg itself, and participants will be asked to cooperate on tasks focusing on both individual buildings and larger urban spaces and ensembles. Group presentations based on research as well as direct observation will provide the basis for evaluation.
In addition to offering insights into the differing "conservation cultures" of Germany and Scotland, the Summer School represents an opportunity to strengthen students' English language skills; thus the language of instruction and communication will be English.
Those interested in participating are asked to submit a short statement of motivation in English (max. 200 words) to Dr. Blokker by 26 April 2013.
