- Inhalt
- The birth of modern science was a momentous event which had its bearings on all aspect of human life, both individual and social, including morality. The new conception of man, his role in the cosmos, and his relations to nature led to a new conception of human agency, individual freedom, moral obligation. Consequently, they also led to a new conception of the role and nature of political authority and social cohesion. A superb expression of the way in which all these issues are entrenched can be found in the work of Thomas Hobbes. During this seminar, his Leviathan will be read, in order to highlight how it changed the common conceptions of individual agency, morality, and political action. Particular attention will be paid to role played by the new scientific world-view in determining this new trend
