Selbststudium asynchrone Lehreinheiten, Mitarbeit an Vorbereitungswochenenden und Intervisionssitzungen, Durchführung einer Sprachlernberatung mit Schüler:in, Abgabe eines E-Portfolios
- Inhalt:
- Als zukünftige Lehrkraft haben Sie im Klassenzimmer 20 bis 30 Schüler:innen vor sich sitzen, deren vielfältige Superkräfte , also ihre individuellen Stärken und Potentiale, häufig im Schullalltag unentdeckt bleiben. Die Kernaufgabe und Grundannahme der schulischen Lernberatung besteht genau darin, alle Schüler:innen dabei zu begleiten und zu coachen, diese persönlichen Superkräfte zu wecken und so im Beratungsgespräch nachhaltige Techniken und Werkzeuge für den eigenen Lernweg zu entwickeln.
Im Zentrum der schulischen Lernberatung und unseres Seminars steht somit die alltägliche Begleitung von Schüler:innen bei ihren individuellen Lernprozessen, die innerhalb und außerhalb des Unterrichtsgeschehen zu eigenverantwortlichen und autonomen Lernen motiviert werden sollen. Statt als reine:r Wissensvermittler:in zu fungieren, sieht sich die Lehrkraft im intensiven Austausch mit den einzelnen Schüler:innen als Sprachlernberater:in mit dem Ziel, den individuellen Lernprozess offenzulegen, bewusst zu machen und so sukzessive zu optimieren.
Im Seminar Superkräfte bei Schüler:innen wecken : Sprachlernberatung im schulischen Kontext beschäftigen wir uns zunächst mit dem lerntheoretischen Hintergrund zu Lernstrategien und -techniken; insbesondere im Sprachunterricht. Zudem diskutieren wir die Grundlagen verschiedener Spracherwerbstheorien und reflektieren deren Möglichkeiten und Grenzen im Hinblick auf bestimmte Beratungsanlässe und -ziele. Anhand von Fallbeispielen und einem umfassenden Praxisteil konkretisieren wir Gelingensbedingungen für verschiedene Sprachberatungsprozesse und definieren aus der Praxis heraus die verschiedenen Phasen der Beratungsgespräche. Dabei werden aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse zu Lernberatungsanliegen in der schulischen Praxis berücksichtigt. Im Tandem führen Sie über mehrere Wochen Online-Lernberatungen mit Schüler:innen durch (je Tandem ein:e Schüler:in), die intensiv und engmaschig durch regelmäßige Intervisionen in der Gruppe durch die Dozierenden begleitet werden. Die Vorbereitung, Durchführung und Nachbereitung der Sprachlernberatungen sind als Praxisphasen Teil der Lehrveranstaltung und ergänzen die Präsenszeiten im Seminar (siehe Zeit und Ort unter Angaben). Darüber hinaus haben Sie die Möglichkeit, Termine für eine individuelle Betreuung durch das Dozierenden-Team wahrzunehmen. Mithilfe eines E-Portfolios reflektieren Sie semesterbegleitend die besprochenen Inhalte sowie Ihre persönliche Entwicklung der Sprachlernberatungskompetenz.
Bitte beachten Sie: Dieses Praxisseminar richtet sich nicht ausschließlich an Studierende mit anglistischem Hintergrund. Im Gegenteil: Wir freuen uns über Lehramtsstudierende aus anderen Fächern, die Interesse an Spracherwerbstheorien und Techniken der (Sprach-)Lernberatung mitbringen und die sich in ihrer späteren Rolle als beratende und ermöglichende Lehrkräfte praktisch ausprobieren möchten. - Inhalt:
- In this seminar, we will take a closer look at gender and why and how it matters in and around the EFL classroom. 75% of the English teachers at German grammar schools and 79% of the Gymnasium part-timers are female. How do these facts influence the way English is taught? How do our own gender stereotypes affect our expectationss, choice of topics, teaching methods, and evaluation of pupils? How can teachers address the topic of gender in the EFL classroom? Which texts and activities might help? How much truth is in the notion of girls being better language learners?
While dealing with theoretical texts (in German and English), we will examine course books and teaching concepts. Students of this seminar will be given the opportunity to develop their own lesson sequences tackling gender issues.

- The aim of this course is to introduce basic concepts and principles of English language education and to discuss them in the light of practical application and classroom procedure. The seminar includes a discussion of the following aspects: theories of language learning and acquisition, learners (differentiation and learning strategies), teaching vocabulary and grammar, skills and competences, inter-/ transcultural learning, media, texts and literature, assessment, and current issues of English language education.

- The aim of this course is to introduce basic concepts and principles of English language teaching and to discuss them in the light of practical application and classroom procedure. The course includes a discussion of the following: theories of language learning and acquisition, approaches and methods in ELT, teaching vocabulary / grammar / the skills / literature, the principles of lesson planning, error analysis, and assessment procedures in the classroom.
Please note: The attendance of the additional Übung “Academic Writing in TEFL” is strongly recommended, as it aims to support students in acquiring general academic skills and in completing their portfolios. Please register via FlexNow if you would like to attend.

1. You should not register for more than one parallel course. This can lead to you being excluded. This does not apply to the waiting list.
2. Not attending the first session of the course can lead to you being excluded.

- Die Digitalisierung in allen Lebensbereichen hat auch Auswirkungen auf die Schule und das Fremdsprachenlernen in der Schule. Medienkompetenz ist mittlerweile als integraler Bestandteil des schulischen Bildungs- und Erziehungsauftrages zu verstehen. In diesem Seminar werden die Potentiale der „neuen“ Medien, ihre Chancen und Risiken im Englischunterricht beleuchtet.
Wie können Wortschatz- und Grammatiklernen, Hör- und Leseverstehen sowie das Sprechen und die interkulturelle Kompetenz durch den vielgerühmten Mehrwert der modernen Medien gefördert werden? Wo stößt der sinnvolle Einsatz an seine Grenzen? Anhand von unterrichtspraktischen Beispielen wird der Einsatz moderner Medien im Englischunterricht analysiert und diskutiert.

In this seminar, we will combine linguistic and pedagogical perspectives on English grammar, with a view to crossing the traditional disciplinary boundary between these areas of study. The following key aspects will be in focus: teaching practice, linguistic and corpus-based research on grammar, descriptive and prescriptive rule formulations, learners development of grammatical competence, and practical implications.
Current linguistic perspectives on English grammar are firmly grounded in empirical data collection (most prominently electronic text corpora), which highlights the existence of variation between alternative grammatical structures and tries to find patterns in them. In this way, we will gain insights into cognitive (speaker-internal) factors underlying language production and perception as well as situational (speaker-external) factors, such as degrees of formality and regional varieties (e.g. British and American English). We will also consider the role of grammar rules , both the prescriptive ones targeting native speakers and the pedagogical ones contained in textbooks for foreign language learners. In addition, students will gain an insight into current teaching practice and related challenges by examining teachers perspectives in research interviews. Against this background, we will explore different approaches to grammar teaching as well as central principles for motivating and effective grammar instruction. Textbook rules and pedagogical materials will be evaluated against the evidence of actual usage attested in text corpora. Finally, students will get an opportunity to experiment with and develop digital content related to grammar instruction both from a linguistic and pedagogic perspective.
Please note:
The seminar will take place in the digital language laboratory (SprachenLLab) on six Mondays (8-12 am), so there will be plenty of opportunities for students to experiment with and develop (digital and corpus-based) materials.
As the seminar is condensed into a 6-week intensive course, participants must be prepared to devote a considerable amount of time to attendance and coursework in November and December.

- Inhalt:
- “L2 writing is a complex, multi-faceted and variable phenomenon, realised in diverse ways by differing populations of learners producing differing kinds of texts in differing societal contexts and acted upon for differing purposes in particular educational, settlement, or workplace programs around the world” (Cumming, 2006). Unsurprisingly, there is neither a comprehensive theory of second language writing nor a monolithic pedagogy that encompasses all aspects of L2 writing competencies (e.g. linguistic, cognitive, sociocultural), which are strongly linked. What is more, L2 writing has often been treated as a form-focused, linguistic exercise in EFL composition classes, stripped off its communication function due to the lack of an authentic readership, and it may therefore be perceived by some student writers as irrelevant and meaningless. This is just one among the many challenges for L2 writing teachers that this course will address.
Course objectives
• To develop a critical awareness of L2 writing pedagogies
• To evaluate the different facets of corrective feedback and assessment
• To explore the language learning affordances of collaborative writing
• To practice designing lessons with L2 writing components

- Inhalt:
- Texts play a key role in learners development of various skills and competences. What is more, they can offer windows into the worlds of others and narrate diversity. In this seminar, we will explore the use of different multimodal texts in English language classrooms with a special focus on the use of picturebooks. While examining various examples, we will discuss important features of texts, reasons for using authentic texts in the classroom, potential challenges, criteria for text selection, and teaching concepts. In addition, features of diversity will be examined and ways of differentiating in the EFL classroom will be discussed to cater for heterogeneous learner groups. Students attending this seminar are given the opportunity to create their own digital text and develop a teaching sequence.

Students attending this seminar can choose whether they want to earn credits in English language education (Fachdidaktik Englisch) or for the KulturPLUS module.
- Inhalt:
- Texts play a key role in learners development of various skills and competences. What is more, they can offer windows into the worlds of others and narrate diversity. In this seminar, we will explore the use of different multimodal texts in English language classrooms with a special focus on the use of picturebooks. While examining various examples, we will discuss important features of texts, reasons for using authentic texts in the classroom, potential challenges, criteria for text selection, and teaching concepts. In addition, features of diversity will be examined and ways of differentiating in the EFL classroom will be discussed to cater for heterogeneous learner groups. Students attending this seminar are given the opportunity to create their own digital text and develop a teaching sequence.
