Gender und Diversität, Unterrichtssprache Deutsch, In the recent decades we observe a global increase in social inequality - a trend that represents a clear departure from the development of the post-war decades. While this trend has long been attributed to structural changes such as globalization and technological progress, the influence of political decisions (or lack of them) is increasingly coming into focus. Accordingly, governments influence the distribution of income, wealth and life chances not only through taxes and welfare state programs, but also through the (de)regulation of markets. The aim of the seminar is for students to understand what is social inequality and how to measure it, what political decisions stand behind the increase of inequality and what could be done to revert this trend.
