Participants should have attended the lecture-based module “Einführung in die Vergleichende Politikwissenschaft” or an equivalent (recommended).
Very good knowledge of the English language is required.

- Inhalt
- A Russian proverb claims, “There are no roads in Russia, only directions”. This course is designed to provide students with “directions” for understanding Russia. For this purpose, the course is divided into four parts: history, political institutions, identity politics and international relations. The course will pose thought-provoking questions and seek answers to them, for example, what is Russia and who are Russians? What is the best political system for Russia? Is Russia unique? Misunderstood? Overall, the course aims to explore many different “meanings” of Russia. At the end of the course students will be able to discuss all these questions from various viewpoints. They will have developed a critical understanding of the key disciplinary and interdisciplinary concepts informing the study of contemporary Russia. Additionally, they will have acquired sound understanding of the scope and limitations of these concepts in the context of analyzing Russian politics.
