- Over the past decades, there have been significant changes in labour relations in Europe, the United States, and other Western societies. Instead of permanent full-time employment that is usually held with one employer for a lifetime, temporary and flexible forms of employment are increasingly prevalent. These types of employment relationships are commonly referred to as 'precarious' and typically involve high levels of uncertainty and risks for workers.
In the seminar, we are examining the potential impact of precarious employment on health. Our focus is particularly on aspects such as job insecurity, risky and unhealthy working conditions, and the effects of material poverty on health. Furthermore, we will discuss possibilities for designing future work in a way that takes into account both employers' needs for flexibility and employees' interests in security.
