Alexander Moiseevich Piatigorsky (1929 2009), philosopher, orientalist, and writer. In 1974, Piatigorsky was forced to emigrate from the Soviet Union. He settled in the United Kingdom and taught at the School of Oriental Studies at the University of London (SOAS). The volume Svobodnyi filosof Piatigorsky contains five series of lectures on philosophy and philosophers from Buddha and Zoroaster to Arthur Koestler, Alexandre Kojève, and Jean-Paul Sartre broadcast on Radio Liberty in the mid-1970s through early 1990s. Each lecture is accompanied by a commentary by the book s editor and compiler, Kirill Kobrin.
