Inhalt:

This seminar deals with gender relations in education over the life course, in theoretical as well as in empirical terms. Special attention will be paid to mechanisms that transform perceived differences between women and men into gender inequalities and their change over time in different welfare state regimes and educational systems. In the seminar, we will read and jointly discuss theoretical approaches that offer explanations to these issues as well as recent empirical studies that shed new light on them. At the end of the seminar, you get to know an ongoing data base on the topic, the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS), and develop own research proposals based on this data.

Inhalt:

This seminar invites master students to get to know and critically reflect on selected themes in the sociology of higher education. It covers both macro and micro perspectives on higher education, such as the global development of higher education from a comparative perspective, issues of access, inequality and stratification in higher education and also more recent developments in European higher education.
