Inhalt:

This Bachelor seminar explores the interplay between family, gender roles and the division of paid and unpaid work, with particular emphasis placed on the role of gender in structuring men and women's lives. In addition to introductory material, substantive themes within the seminar will be divided into three areas: an examination of the private sphere, the public sphere and the interplay between the two. Seminar sessions will consist of discussions of topics and readings, presentations, group work and reflection activities. Assessment will include an in-class exam, and will be discussed in the first week of class.

Inhalt:

Finding a partner, marriage and having children have long been integral parts of the life course for the majority of the population. While these milestones remain largely unchanged most people still look for a partner, get married and have children - the timing and sequence of these events has changed substantially in the past few decades. This bachelor seminar explores the causes and consequences of societal changes for the family, and how this affects the life course. Topics covered include: family, work and retirement; parenthood; the place of marriage in the life course; theories of marriage and the family. Assessment will include an in-class exam, and will be discussed in the first week of class.

Inhalt:

There has been a substantial shift in the importance of parenting and meaning of fatherhood and motherhood over the last 100 years. This Master’s seminar will examine the social construction of childhood and parenthood and how this varies across time and societies. Seminar sessions will consist of discussions of topics and readings, presentations, and group work. Assessment will be discussed in the first week of class.
