Inhalt:

Variation and change are central properties of all languages. Thus, rather than speaking of one "English", it is more adequate to conceive of multiple "Englishes" or at least of English as a pluricentric language. This lecture series, delivered by a range of international experts, will take multiple perspectives on the guiding topic and will illustrate the many ways in which language variation and change (i) can be assessed from a scholarly perspective and (ii) have bearings on everyday language usage.

Inhalt:

This seminar involves a detailed overview of World Englishes, with a focus on postcolonial varieties of English. It will address reasons why English has spread around the globe, which historical and linguistic processes have been involved and what the eventual outcome of these developments - that is, the various Englishes - presently looks like from a structural and sociolinguistic point of view. In addition to different models of World Englishes and more general features of language contact, standard vs. non-standard varieties and language politics, issues such as convergence and divergence of these varieties, globalization and nativization, English as a lingua franca and attitudes towards English will be discussed.

Inhalt:

Dieser Workshop bereitet Sie gezielt auf das Staatsexamen Linguistik synchron (LA Gymnasium) vor und sollte direkt vor dem Examen, also im gleichen Semester, belegt werden. In der ersten Sitzung erhalten Sie praktische Tipps für die schriftliche Prüfung. Zudem haben Sie die Gelegenheit, sich intensiv auf den A-Teil vorzubereiten. Zu den klassischen Prüfungsaufgaben (Transkription, Satzanalyse, morphologische Analyse) erhalten Sie individuelles Feedback bezüglich Form und Inhalt. In der zweiten Sitzung schreiben Sie eine Probeklausur (A- und B-Teil), die Sie etwa eine Woche später im Einzelgespräch zurückbekommen.
