Inhalt:
Over its 30 years of independence Ukraine has survived two major revolutions and dozens of political crises. As a result, the political system is characterized by high level of instability: Only one party managed to remain in the parliament since 2005, the average time a prime minister held office has been less than two years. The party system is extremely personalized, the left-right dimension plays a minor role only. The situation is further complicated by a series of domestic problems, international instability, and an ongoing military conflict. Furthermore, seven years after the 2013-2014 Euromaidan, the question of European integration of Ukraine remains relevant. How far has Ukraine progressed on its way to the EU membership? What are the main problems that undermine the development of democracy, and how can they be solved? These questions are going to be elaborated in this course.
