- Inhalt:
- Worldwide processes of transnational integration and convergence – commonly referred to as “globalization” – have been a major topic of debate in the social sciences in the past decades. In this seminar, we will discuss major sociological theories of globalization. We will start with important predecessors like modernization theory and world systems theory, and then move on to theories like “McDonaldization”, “Glocalization”, or the “Clash of civilizations”. Finally, we will also discuss contemporary diagnoses of a “backlash” against globalization. The seminar focuses mainly on theoretical readings, but these will be illustrated with empirical examples.
