Inhalt:

Ziel und Inhalt Frauen beteiligen sich immer mehr am Arbeitsmarkt und ihr Ausbildungsniveau übersteigt die der Männer in den jüngsten Kohorten. Trotzdem arbeiten Frauen immer noch viel weniger als Männer, sie verdienen weniger pro Stunde, und wählen typische Frauenberufen und Ausbildungsarten (und Männer typische Männerberufen und Ausbildungsarten). Ziel dieses Kurses ist eine Beschreibung und Erklärung für diese Genderungleichheiten zu geben. Wie groß sind die Genderunterschiede und in welchem Bereich liegen sie vor? Wie haben sich diese Genderunterschiede während der Zeit entwickelt? Wie verhalten verschiedene Länder sich zu einander? Und vor allem: wie kann man die Genderunterscheide erklären? Ökonomische Theorien (Human Capital, New Home Economics, Sex Segregation), kulturelle Theorien (Sozialisation, Doing Gender), und Theorien über Diskrimination werden diskutiert. Auch die Rolle von Makrostrukturellen und -kulturellen Faktoren (Institutionen und Gender Normen) werden besprochen. Dazu werden wir zuerst die Genderunterscheide am Arbeitsmarkt diskutieren; danach werden wir uns in die Entstehung und Entwicklung von Genderunterscheiden während der Ausbildung vertiefen.
Lernziele 1. Studenten können die unterschiedlichen Typen der Gender-Ungleichheit auf dem Arbeitsmarkt und im Schulsystem umschreiben und können Gender-Ungleichheit anhand von bestehenden Theorien erklären. Dies wird geprüft anhand eine Übernahme eines Referats. 2. Studenten können soziologische Probleme bezüglich Gender-Ungleichheit formulieren, Studenten können Erklärungen und Hypothesen anhand von bestehenden Theorien rundum Gender-Ungleichheit formulieren, und Studenten können eine Schlussfolgerung aus einem spezifischen Sub-Thema schließen. Dies wird geprüft anhand eines individuellen Papers.
