Students attending the summer school can receive ECTS points by giving a presentation on topics and skills learnt at the summer school in this seminar. - Inhalt
- Young people around the world are increasingly concerned with issues of sustainability, climate crisis, animal rights, and social (in)justice. In addition, one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations is to combat climate change and environmental degradation, and this objective has become a global educational goal across various subjects and school levels in numerous countries, e.g., Germany (cf. BMBF). Thus, teaching English today should not only be about teaching English language skills but also about promoting critical environmental literacy (CEL). Studies have illustrated that digital tools and virtual reality (VR) apps can help learners develop CEL, which is why we will investigate how digital tools can be used to foster environmental education. The overall goal of this seminar is to explore environmental education and digital literacy from various theoretical and practical perspectives, focusing specifically on how environmental learning can be effectively incorporated into the EFL classroom using diverse approaches and media.
