Inhalt
In the Introduction to the Routledge Companion to Literature and Feminism (2024) the editors write: “The written word has played a catalyzing role in women’s struggle for equality, both past and present: whether as a vehicle for personal expression, private exchange, or public communication, the practice of writing – at once reflective, creative, and productive – has enabled women to create liberating spaces in which to critique and challenge the realities of their experience” (1). Following this observation, this seminar’s aim is to read and discuss feminist theory together with feminist fiction to trace and analyze the multiple ways in which theoretical and literary writing stand in conversation with each other. These textual conversations often happen across borders and oceans, so this seminar will take a decidedly transatlantic perspective and bring together U.S.-American, British, and other anglophone feminist writing.
