6 ECTS: MA Anglistik/ Amerinkanistik: Präsentation mit schriftlicher Ausarbeitung; Joint Degree: Referat und Hausarbeit 4500-5000 Wörter; Abgabetermin: 10.3.2009)
- Inhalt
- The seminar will discuss literature from Australia and New Zealand from the nineteenth to the twentieth century, covering all genres. We shall look at texts from the pens of the white settlers and their descendants as well as Aboriginal or Maori writers. Our focus of interest will lie with the particular concerns of settler colonies within the field of the so-called 'New Literatures in English'. For this purpose, we shall look at literary negotiations of identity as they are expressed through representations of place, land or history and through the attempt to establish a literature of one's own.
Some poems or extracts from texts will be provided as scans on a site in the Virtual Campus.
The selection given below is still under construction. :-)
Students should have read Mister Pip, True History of the Kelly Gang and Gould's Book of Fish by the beginning of the term.
