- Inhalt
- This course, also, will be directed toward non-experts, but it will aim toward a comparison of themes and ideas shared by the two works—one a medieval romance and the other a translation of a major Ancient/Medieval text. The Riverside Chaucer will be our base text in this course, also. We will read The Consolation of Philosophy first and then The Troilus, making step-by-step comparisons as we proceed. I will deliver this course with reference, necessarily, to Dante’s Comedia, as Chaucer used the Boece in counterpoint to the Comedia throughout the romance. For specific details on my approach to teaching this material, I direct my students’ attention to my Chapter in the MLA volume: Teaching Chaucer’s Troilus and Criseyde.
On Sunday, we will make a student fee funded field trip to Munich, where we are going to visit the Glyptothek and the Antikensammlung.
