Für Studienortwechsler, Erasmusstudenten sowie Studierende, die den Leistungsnachweis zur baldigen Prüfungsanmeldung benötigen, werden im begrenzten Umfang Plätze freigehalten. Bei Überbuchung der Übung fällt die Entscheidung über die Teilnahme in Rücksprache mit der Dozentin.
Scheinanforderungen:
2 ECTS: regular active participation in class + presentation
4 ECTS: regular active participation in class + presentation + short assignment
6 ECTS: regular active participation in class + presentation + term paper
3/4/6 ECTS (BA “Ergänzungsmodul” in combination with the course “Methods and Theories”, 1 ECTS): regular active participation in class + presentation + oral exam (20 min)
8 ECTS sind nur für BA-Studierende nach Absprache mit der Dozentin vor Semesterbeginn möglich.
Modulanbindungen:
Diese Lehrveranstaltung ist für alle Studiengänge (Lehramt, BA, MA usw.) geeignet, in denen 2, 3, 4 oder 6 ECTS im Rahmen eines Seminars oder einer frei wählbaren Übung in der englischen Sprachwissenschaft erforderlich sind.
Combination with "Methods and Theories in Linguistics":
In the early weeks of term, we offer an introductory block familiarizing students with linguistic research methods (the Übung "Methods and Theories in Linguistics"): https://univis.uni-bamberg.de/form?dsc=anew/lecture_view&lvs=guk/angl/engls/method&anonymous=1&founds=guk/angl/engls/method&sem=2021w&codeset=utf8. Participation in this Übung is recommended for anyone with a strong interest in Linguistics. For those BA students planning on doing their Ergänzungsmodul in Linguistics, for all students doing Lehramt Gymnasium and for all MA students, the course is obligatory at a certain point in their studies, so it is recommended to do it as early as possible. These participants are required to reserve the following times and dates: Friday, 29 October 2021, 8-10 am, Thursday, 11 November 2021, 8-10 am, and Friday, 12 November 2021, 8-11 am. - Globalization and migration have broadened the scale on which speakers of different varieties and languages get together in ever-changing ways, leaving significant effects on languages, speakers and societies alike. This has led to an increased interest in forms and processes, assets and challenges of individual and societal multilingualism in recent years.
In this seminar, we will critically analyse concepts, practices and ideologies surrounding multilingualism and the role that English plays therein. The course will address questions such as
- What is multilingualism? What is translanguaging?
- How do language and identity interrelate?
- How are power and inequality linked to language questions in multilingual societies?
- Which role does English play in a multilingual world?
- How do media implement and discuss multilingualism?
- Which implications does all of that have for language education?
Case studies from a variety of geographical contexts will serve to illustrate and further explore these issues, offering participants the chance to reflect their own identity as multilingual speakers as well as their attitudes towards multilingualism.
