Inhalt
The aim of this seminar is to introduce participants to the idea of archaeology of the recent past and to discuss the possibility of applying remote sensing techniques in its study. Firstly we will focus on theoretical perspective of archaeology of the recent past as well as archaeology of contemporary past through analysis of different case studies. Our goal will be to deconstruct thinking of archaeology as the study of antiquity or remote past. Topics such as Archaeology of us , anarchical perspective as well as archaeology of anarchy, garbage archaeology, contemporary migrations, archaeology of the homeless, archaeology of outer space and space explorations will be more or less briefly addressed, depending on participants interests. In a broader context military focused archaeology (cold war, WW1, WW2), landscape archaeology and problem of the Anthropocene should be debated. The second part of our meetings will be devoted to remote sensing techniques and interpretation of remote sensing data. We will work with historical and recent aerial photographs, satellite imageries and Airborne Laser Scanning derivatives. Their possible application in archaeology of the recent past will be discussed. Seminars will be held in a computer room and there will be an opportunity not only to discuss above mentioned problems but also to do some hands on exercises throughout the whole semester. Each of the participant will present a paper on a chosen topic, a possibility of writing a paper for additional ECTS points will exist.
