- Inhalt
- This course provides an examination of the methods, theory, history, and controversies of the literary form known as autobiography before focusing on its development in the Middle East. It is designed to offer a systematic understanding and critical awareness of Middle Eastern autobiography in a global perspective. First, theoretical issues such will be explored to enable graduate students to evaluate past and present autobiographical writing. Then, to understand what it meant to write the lives of the self in various times and spaces of the Middle East, the attention will move to autobiographical texts and their interpretations. The objective of the course is to understand and evaluate Middle Eastern autobiographical texts with an awareness of both the genre’s historical development and the surveyed theoretical issues.
