- It is normally assumed that the best advantage of Liberalism as a political theory is that it does not endorse any particular world-view, but is compatible with all. At least, with those which are compatible with most of the rest. This is called liberal neutrality, and is presented as an argument in favour of Liberalism. However, this opens at least two sorts of problems: 1. is it really possible to have a world-view which is neutral in this sense? 2. Making this sort of neutrality the fundamental value for choosing among political theories is a legitimate and neutral move? By focusing on these two issues, the lectures will propose a critical survey of most contemporary political theories and will offer a comprehensive and mindful introduction to contemporary political views.
